Recent Reads

On my recent break in Lanzarote I took just one book, due to the fact that I had opted
for just hand luggage (my earlier post explains that dilemma in more detail) only. I also know that my friend’s house that I was staying in had plenty to read as she is a self-confessed Book Worm.

She of course now has a Kindle loaded with a huge selection of books, I have not gone down the Kindle path as yet, mainly because I have a Playbook (Blackberry) and have joined and loaded up the Kobo application. But as yet I have not fully converted to E-Reading.

The other factor that stopped me from purchasing more books via Kobo and taking my playbook was the fact that I was unsure as to whether it would actually work and connect at the house.

So, out of the pile of paperbacks that I have acquired to read, I had either gifts or bargains that I could not resist at the time to choose from, I chose the ‘Night Circus’ to take with me.

I knew I would love this book and from the moment I read the back cover I couldn’t wait to get into the chapters and as I came to the end of the very first page I was hooked.

Any moment that we weren’t actually doing something, this book was open with my nose stuck firmly in it, and I’m afraid I was oblivious to any conversation that was going on or that I was trying to be involved with…..oops!
It's a good job we were all book lovers and wanted a totally relaxing time, just reading, lounging by the pool and of course a few cocktails.

My inner child had been awakened and was being very selfish and stubborn in wanting to be completely and utterly immersed in the story. Erin Morgenstern had captured me with the opening line:- ‘The circus arrives without warning.’ This was a circus I definitely wanted to know more about…..

Personally, I loved the book and would highly recommend it. For me it had enough detail for my imagination to build the scenes and create the characters along with their surroundings and all of the interactions.

This is one book that won’t be leaving the house now that I’ve read it and heading for pastures new, only that is if I deem my friends worthy of entrusting it too to read and enjoy as much as I did. If it does get too ‘dog-eared’ then I will replace it in my collection by that time in electronic form.

Would love to hear about your favourite title.
