Well, not normally one to go overboard in the romance department (although I’m partial to a chic flick and slightly in love with the idea of Love and romance) I decided to re-introduce it into my household….. as It had been MIA for a few years…..!!
I know that Valentines day is very commercial these days……or is that just me and my age being cynical!! but that being said it is a good time to let those you love know that you really do appreciate them. It’s also true that you shouldn’t, well I believe, leave it to just one day in the year to do this. But life has a tendency to get in the way and things can and do take over your time and thoughts and you can make the assumption that the person you love already knows that you do….
So, I thought it was about time I did a little more that just say ‘I Love You’ and I had already seen an item in a brochure from “Not on the Highstreet” that I thought was a beautiful sentiment and I set about making my/our own.
My very first ‘date’ with Mr C was in Clapham at the ‘Windmill on the Common’ great pub, lovely views, a warm evening and a very nervous me as apparently, I didn’t stop talking according to Mr C’s memory……and about myself to boot. Aunty Gok would have been so dissapointed with me.
Anyhow, I ‘Googled mapped’ the Windmill and printed this out on some heavier gauged paper, where the ‘Windmill pub’ was highlighted on the map I stuck a red confetti heart over the pointer and bought a picture mount which had a heart shaped aperture cut into it.
This is the result and even if I do say so myself I was really pleased with it.
I'm also happy to report that Mr C was just as impressed and delighted in receiving it as I was in giving it. He really loved the sentiment behind it and said as much.
Mr C had also decided to go down the hand crafted route for Valentines day as he had made me a delicious heart shaped individual sponge with raspberry’s and cream which was beautiful and a lovely, much appreciated surprise.
Making something by your own fair hand for a loved one, whether it be big or small, feels so much more meaningful in this commercial world, the fact that it was thought of for you personally and with the love that went into creating it just for you is what makes it so special.
Did you have a Crafty Valentines?
Would love to see (or hear) what you made.
