I have grown up with dogs in the house and my mum was given a Boxer puppy when I was born whom I just adored. I have always wanted a dog in the house too, even though I know they are not as independent as cats.
So, I was looking for a Boston Terrier puppy or dog to add to our family. As this breed seemed, to me, like a smaller version of the Boxer in character as well as looks. I searched the internet as you would and was shocked by the price of them but I suppose they are considered as a ‘designer’ dog…!! But with prices ranging between, £700-£1,500 for a pedigree, I think we’ll have to wait until our savings allow.
Then I came across an Ad for a puppy at £400 and made contact via the DogsandPuppies website. I got (what seemed to be) a very nice email back providing more details on the puppies and more photos were even included.
But this is where the ‘hook’ came in too as they asked for more details on my circumstances and my experience of pets, type of household etc and if they decided to let me take one of the puppies wanted regular photos to show how they were doing.
This seemed very responsible to me but then in the next email they advised that due to their work finishing and having recently retired they had moved back to their home town which surprise, surprise, was at the other end of the country (don’t forget they already had the details of where I was) but that they used a very good Pet Courier service and gave the costs of this.
Now I had a niggling feeling in the back of my mind or a while now so my next email to them was to ask for a picture of the parents (as the Ad did state that these were with them) and the name of the Pet courier as I had my concerns over the journey for such a young puppy to undertake and wanted to talk to the Pet Courier for reassurance.
In the meantime I did some investigation into the telephone number that had been supplied at the bottom of the emails from them.
This turned out to originate in Los Angeles and had a ‘foreign’ ring tone when run and an automated message in French??? And the price had always seemed too low for a pedigree.
As the saying goes ‘if it seems too good to be true, it usually is’ Suffice to say that I did not get a reply to this email and my ‘Google’ search on puppy scams came up with exactly the same scenario of money being taken for the Pet Courier several times from people and of course never seeing the puppy.
So, my family will consist of just us three or the moment - MrC, me and Meg our beautiful tortie cat.
But when it's meant to be our Boston Terrier will join us I'm sure.
This is Meg my lovely big softie.
This is Meg's sister Mim who we lost last year and she is still missed dearly
as such a character very much an outdoor cat and would always be where we were in the garden or up the apple tree <3
It is sad that there seem to be so many unscrupulous people around these days. Keep your wits about you.
